When you go to the "design" page, there are a lot of little boxes that say "gadgets." Click on a box, and a menu comes up with all your options, a lot which you want to choose -- like for followers, mail, etc. or if you just want to write text, or for a photo...there is also javascript which is where you copy code for things like say an etsy button, that kind of thing...it takes a while to get used to the formant, you're not  alone!

The thing to know is (which I didn't): if you create more than one page, all the same gadgets you choose will be copied from page to page...you can't do new layouts. Frustrating. I learned that the hard way!

I had my blog on my site too but didn't do it often. When changed hosts for my site I went with blogger. But I have read they get the page ranking and SEO benefits, not your site.

The idea though was to be where I might hit a bigger audience and attract visitors to my website. I designed and built my own website too; taught myself XHTML and CSS. But am in the process changing to a free host and am having to rewrite pages using their wysiwyg editor - change over this week.

I actually had my blog on my website, but took it off as I didn't see how I could get the followers I get on Blogger. But my site I designed myself in iweb so maybe it's just not sophisticated enough for that. That would be a good way to get traffic to my website, which I now ignore...

Thanks Sandra I will check out zibbet. Snezana just play around with blogger for a while as Sandra suggested. It is better for SEO if you can host your blog on your own website, there is software out there for doing that. But if too complicated I'd go with blogger.

I didn't know anything either, but just figured it out. I also would look at other blogs, see what kind of gadgets they had on theirs, and usually if I liked one, somewhere on the gadget would be a link to how you can get it.... basically, you just copy the code into the javascript gadget choice on  blogger....you did need to take some time to get used to the whole "design" thing...

Kathy, look at Ziibbet.com -- a lot of etsy folk have moved over there, including me. I'm still on etsy, but I much prefer that community, and it's growing. Great managment group too.

Yes, Sandra I'm thinking of taking my own advice and maybe put some things with Paypal buttons on my blog in the future. I do blog about special offers available on my web and some items that might be of interest at certain times of year. I recently joined Artfire, but no sales there yet. I did try Etsy a couple years ago but think I got lost in sheer number of goods.

Good point, Kathy, about selling on your blog -- I've just been thinking about that! Since I spend far more time there than on my site, and that's where I get followers...and I did just figure out how to do the paypal buttons so it isn't too hard...I also sell on Etsy and Zibbet, but again, not sure what traffic I get there either....and I enjoy the blogging the most!
